What is ASTM A105?
ASTM is a US material standard and a carbon steel. ASTM A105 is mainly used for various pipe fittings in pipeline systems, such as forged elbows, tees, crosses, reducers and caps, etc. It is widely used in petrochemicals, energy, pneumatic transportation, etc.
ASTM A105 chemical composition
A105 chemical elements
C: ≤0.35, Cr: ≤0.3, Mn: 0.6-1.05, Mo: ≤0.12, Si: ≤0.35, S: ≤0.050
, P: ≤0.040, Cu: ≤0.4, Ni: ≤0.4, V: ≤0.08 It can also contain a certain amount of copper, nickel, molybdenum, vanadium and chromium as needed. The tensile strength of ASTM A105 is not less than 485MPa, the yield strength is not less than 250MPa, the elongation after fracture is not less than 22%, the cross-sectional shrinkage is not less than 30%, and the hardness does not exceed HB1871.
ASTM A105 carbon steel forging heat treatment
The hardness of ASTM A105 before heat treatment generally does not exceed HB187, and the hardness can reach HB187 after heat treatment. The heat treatment is very simple, heating to 930° and cooling by air cooling.
The heat treatment process of Astm A105 carbon steel forgings mainly includes:
- Annealing: heat the forging to 800-900℃, keep it warm for a period of time and then slowly cool it to room temperature.
- Normalizing: heat the forging to 900-1000℃, keep it warm for a period of time and then slowly cool it to room temperature.
- Quenching: heat the forging to 850-900℃, keep it warm for a period of time and then quickly cool it to room temperature.
- Tempering: Heat the forging to 200-300
