What is closed die forging
Closed die forging is a method of processing metal in the forging industry. The die of closed die forging adopts a closed design. During the closed die forging process, since the die is closed, the metal raw material will fill the die cavity under the forging of the press, and no flash will be produced.
Closed die forging process
The closed die forging process is not complicated, and it is the same as the conventional die forging process.
1 Design the die. According to the customer’s drawings, our engineers draw 3D drawings to design the die. The die is generally made of H13 material. The die made of H13 has a long life and can be forged many times.
2 Cut the metal billet, heat it, and heat the metal billet through the furnace. The heating temperature is 800-1500 degrees. Our materials include carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, alloy, etc.
3 Forging The metal blank is placed in the closed die in advance, and the forging machine extrude, stretch, bend and other operations on the metal blank, so that the forged blank is obtained.
Closed die forging VS open die forging
1 The die design is different. The closed die is closed, and the metal flows in the die cavity, which will produce a small amount of flash. The open forging die is open, and the metal will flow to the outside of the die during forging to form flash.
2 The forging products of closed forging and open forging are different. Closed forging is suitable for forging complex and precision parts, such as gears, automobile engine parts, custom forging parts, etc. Open forging is suitable for forging simple forgings, such as tie rods, shafts, etc.
3 Both closed forging and open forging are suitable for mass production of a large number of forgings, especially in the die forging industry. Both closed forging and open forging are frequently used in the die forging industry.
